《给它一个家》Awareness Campaign for the Abandoned Companions

The studio was star studded for 3 full days consecutively. We had 22 Malaysian artistes lending voice and their kindness towards the awareness of abandoned pets, especially the strays on the streets.

Its such a great experience where the the studio was charged up with positive vibes, seeing artistes from various labels getting together for a good cause. The crews were working tirelessly taking footages as we were recording. It was exciting and challenging at the same time, as we had back to back schedules to fit and we had to get the best tone in such a short time frame.
2 mics, sE Gemini Mk2 and JZ v11 were put to the tasks. We had an all tube setup and a transformer charged channel to handle different tones and projections from the artistes.

The sE Gemini was paired with Tree Audio Branch, and JZ v11 went through Chandler TG2 with Neve Portico 5043 Comp. This was an interesting pairing where the sE GeminiMK2 gave a crisps presence, only set back was the limitation of SPL handling. On the other hand, JZv11 through the transformer chain gave a warm, big sound which fits perfectly for the powerhouse vocals.

We had over 120 vocal tracks in the end, and the Pyramix DAW was handling well without any glitches or any signs of latency albeit having a few plugins on each channels. This was a first for us to put the DAW to test and we were very happy with its performances.

Movie Soundtrack with Jeana Ho

We have the gorgeous Hong Kong movie star/model Jeana Ho in StarMount Studio recording one of the OST for her upcoming movie. sE Gemini MK2 was put up for the task. We love how it captures the nuances of her characteristic vocals. With the help of the dual-valve design, warm and lush tone was expected.

Amirah Ali @StarMount Studio

We had talented Amirah Ali in the studio for rhythm section recordings and also an interesting recording of traditional "Asli" style violin. Its an one day blocked session and we appreciate clients that would allow enough time for us to get the optimum setup for their projects.  sE Gemini MKII was used for Amirah's vocals. Its able to capture the body and the nuances of the vocal performance, and through its dual valved circuitry, a lush and full bodied sound was presented through the Solitaire 6a Speakers.
JZ V67 was put to the task for violin recording. Placed 2 ft above the source, we could get a nice blend of mids and high mids from the violin. Neve Portico pre and comp were used and the transformers were driven up to get more saturation feel to the sound source.

Amirah is nominated for 6 categories in the VIMA Awards 2013. We wish her all the best and vote!

Platform 11, Keith Tan Vocals

We've reached the final tracking of the vocals of Keith Tan, Platform 11. Vocals coached by 管啟源 aka Guan, one of the most sought after lyricist and music producer in the region. It's such a great experience working with passionate, dynamic, yet professional personnel.

Recorded in the vocal booth of Studio A, sE Gemini II, transported with Vovox Link into Chandler TG2 with extra boost. On the DAW, Metric Halo Channel Strip with activated Compressor, small hint of plate reverb and paired with MC 77 gave a nicely controlled vocal cue mixes. All in all, its productive and we look forward for more nights to come!

Soundtrack for film at StarMount Studio

Strings and more strings coming in the studio these days. And it's lots of fun and hard work, most of all great effort to everyone involved in the movie soundtrack production.
Mixing cues and matching music to pictures are something new to our engineers and not to mention around the clock tracking and mixing!

We had 2 groups of string players coming in for the tracks and also cutting some rhythm sections and most of all the beautiful voice of miss Bell Foo.

sE Gemini sounds great when paired up with Bell's vocals. It gives such hugging warmth around the vocals, and it is really good if you're looking for the "intimate" vocal feel. Top end was silky and it sits right in the mix nicely.

JZ V12 was use for some "sweet" vocals as the strong mids from the mic and creamy top end gives it a solid yet punchy performance. Its interesting that this FET could produce texture very close to a tube mic would.

Looking forward to the mastering of the movie and will keep you guys posted when the movie is out!
