RABPIT AUDIO KIMBERLITE @StarMount Studio

R.P.T  Kimberlite Power Cord from Rabpit Audio is currently in StarMount Studio. Courtesy of Ganz Lim of SoundBuz we are able to experience and find out how much difference does a well done power cord compared to stock/ the common ones that came with the equipments.

The unit came with a nicely packed black box, and it was heavy and shouting luxury on every inch of the package. The Kimberlite power cord was nicely coiled and placed in the centre and the sight was  We first got it into Audient Zen Mixing Console. While playing back, the first thing that everyone in the room felt was the extra headroom and depth from our usual listening experience. Its slightly softer when we had the normal power cord but the reproduction of sound was more refine and less noise.

As for the inputs from the Audient Zen mic pres, we noticed less noise as we approach maximum gain, and the sound texture had more definition. The difference was more significant when we had that on Tree Audio Branch channel strip, where much lower noise floor was achieved and the tone and texture were much more velvety and smoother in a very pleasant way. We were quite excited to this finding as the difference was the most significant.

We were told that it works best on the AD/DA converters, so it was then powering the premium AD/DA converters of Horus. We could hardly hear any significant differences as when it was on the other equipments.

Electricity is definitely the most crucial and overlooked element in most of the studio environment. Clean electricity is like clean blood to maintain a healthy body. And yes, this cable does help us to hear and work better. The truth is, one unit would not be enough and it will cost a lot of money for this 'invisible investment'.

Joi Noir Debut Album@StarMount Studio

Joi Noir came at the right time to be the first rock band recorded with our new Pyramix system. We were all excited to see how much of a difference, given the huge amount of headroom would benefit in the genre of rock music.

The whole tracking process had been a fruitful journey for both the band and the studio. Both were pushing to get the best performance from the session. Often scaling on the edge and sometimes over the edge to be a little bit more interesting and experimental, the sessions had been all about challenging the dynamic range of the converters, getting the most organic sound from the drums, electric guitars and bass.

We kept the signal flow as short as possible, from the mics to the mic pres of Audient Zen mixing console, into Horus premium converters. Microphone placements and pairings were the variables we used.

And now the band has almost done mixing the album and is about to get the tracks mastered. This is a true international project as the band traveled around the globe to pick their flavors. Tracking was done in Big A Productions and StarMount Studio (Malaysia), Mixed by Gareth Jones (UK) and  will be mastered by Marc Antonio Spaventi in Amsterdam.

The band has started a campaign at Indiegogo to fund for this debut album. We are definitely looking forward to the completion of Joi Noir's debut album

Thank You 2014, Cheers to 2015!

Its been an exciting year to StarMount Studio. We made new friends, expanded into new territories, major changes in the studio, new addition of facilities and all other special little moments that enriched our year.

Just a quick recap, we now have 2 working studios - Studio HD and The Upstairs.

Studio HD

Housing ProTools HD 8 and packed with the color palette from Lavry, RME, Tree Audio, Chandler Limited, Rupert Neve Designs and Audient, we have wide selection of tone colors for vocals and acoustic instruments recording.

Monitoring options are Yamaha MSP7, Adam F7 and Solitaire 5a.

The room was made rather reflective, as we were looking at a more natural and lively recordings as oppose to a damped room. Dampening options are available with reflexion filter, drapes and pads if necessary.

The highlight of Studio HD is, the price. We intend to make the rates affordable for everyone. Do hit us up to check on the studio rates and packages for your project needs.

The Upstairs

We are delighted to introduce Pyramix 9 Mass core with Horus interface (DSD) in The Upstairs.
The never ending crave for good sound has led us into this system and although the learning curve is really a painful one but all is worthwhile for its quality. We are now capable of going up to 384khz in PCM format, and DSD256.

Come and experience the joy and pleasure together with us as It never stops to impress after months of having the new system!

Cheers to 2015!

Introducing "Studio HD" new addition of StarMount Studio

Things were moving fast in the studio and it has been a while since our last update.

With much delight, we're introducing the well equipped "Studio HD". Its a vocal-centric recording facility that we have packed in different colors of mic pres and gathered one of the best AD/DA converters in the industry for the one that matters most - vocals.
The Studio can do up to 12 tracks simultaneous recording, to cater for drums and other instruments recordings.

The live room is really "live" as we would want to have a more open sound as compared to the ones we already had. It offers a breath of fresh air and we love it after listening to the tracks recorded in the room. Its natural, and sits in the mix easily without much need of an reverb to live up the vocals.
Its all about the fun of recording and experiment in this new Studio HD.
The best part is, our main objective for this studio is to make it very affordable so that you can have more time to track your vocals, which is the most important element in the song.

Its officially available to all starting November 3rd and please do drop us an email for bookings and enquiries.

Gears List at the moment:

Pro Tools HD8 with Waves Platinum pack and more.
Lavry Blue AD/DA
RME ADI-8 QS AD/DA
Tree Audio Branch
Chandler Limited TG2
Audient ASP008
Audient Centro
Yamaha MSP 7

Our new favorite place.

New room, new sound. Love it.

Violin Recording for "Black Martini"

We set up the session early in the morning as we were having a session in real time with our "day and night different time zone" counter part from the states- incredibly talented Joe Johnson.

JZ 11 is our go to microphone these days. Apart from its friendly pricing, it is such a utilitarian microphone that offers the right amount of sonic character for vocals and other musical instruments.

The low mids are tight and the highs are well controlled without much bumps, thus we need not to worry about dipping the sibilance. And we turned to the Porticos for the warm and silky string sound. I would say the mic pre is very musical and surprisingly Mr Rupert Neve has done a very good job on the 5043 compressor. It just gives us the tonal character we wanted easily- musical. We do admit that the pres are not as tight on the low end, but the Silk mode made it up for strings instruments and we particularly love it on the piano.

We're honored and grateful to have talented people coming into the studio. Great music, great vibe. Click here for some clips from "Black Martini".
