"Dancing Shoes" Ryot Jones@StarMount Studio

Bright vibes follows wherever this band goes. Its precious that everyone is dedicated to make time, and get together to make music. These guys have hectic schedules and we manage to get them into one space for their debut single "Dancing Shoes"

Time was limited and we had only half a day to track the whole band. Got the rhythm section up through our trusted Audient Zen and bass direct into our go to Tree Audio Branch with little compression.

Guitars through the Vox AC30CCX, picked up with sE4400. Vocals were tracked with our latest addition of the Calrec Soundfield MKV. The voice captured was spacious and it sits very well in the mix even without any processing. Truly one of the best addition to the studio.

The band was looking at a retro-ish vibe thus we sculpted the sound to be back at the 90's, especially with the synths and keyboard patches.

Joi Noir Debut Album@StarMount Studio

Joi Noir came at the right time to be the first rock band recorded with our new Pyramix system. We were all excited to see how much of a difference, given the huge amount of headroom would benefit in the genre of rock music.

The whole tracking process had been a fruitful journey for both the band and the studio. Both were pushing to get the best performance from the session. Often scaling on the edge and sometimes over the edge to be a little bit more interesting and experimental, the sessions had been all about challenging the dynamic range of the converters, getting the most organic sound from the drums, electric guitars and bass.

We kept the signal flow as short as possible, from the mics to the mic pres of Audient Zen mixing console, into Horus premium converters. Microphone placements and pairings were the variables we used.

And now the band has almost done mixing the album and is about to get the tracks mastered. This is a true international project as the band traveled around the globe to pick their flavors. Tracking was done in Big A Productions and StarMount Studio (Malaysia), Mixed by Gareth Jones (UK) and  will be mastered by Marc Antonio Spaventi in Amsterdam.

The band has started a campaign at Indiegogo to fund for this debut album. We are definitely looking forward to the completion of Joi Noir's debut album!

Dalang Post Production and Sound Mixing @StarMount Studio

WeFilm has brought their new independent film "Dalang" to StarMount Studio for post production and stereo sound mixing.
Music was scored by one of the prominent avant garde composer -Yii Kah Hoe. The artistic value was elevated more when the music was paired to the picture. We couldn't stress more about how important audio instills "life" into the video, so we did what we can to guide the audience through the story telling process.
Our biggest challenge is always in cleaning up the dialogs from the location recordings. Phase reversal and a few more noise reduction/ restructuring plugins were essential and sometimes "life saving". The whole movie was carried by the music and conversations, so we kept foley and sound design at minimum.
We used sE 4400 and JZ V11 for the ADR. They both have similar character but the V11 has become our favorite go-to microphone for voice over applications. It has a darker tone while maintaining good amount of body on the mids and low mids. Sibilance were much controlled on the V11 compared to the sE4400 which has more top end, less low mids.

Dixon Drums-Spider at StarMount Studio

Here's a drum demo of Dixon Drums-Spider. Brought in by Concerto Music Store and played by Danny Chen of Concerto Music Academy. The shells are of mahogany, and they are light on weight and deep in tone. The session was tracked with Audient Zen's mic pre and Metric Halo Channel Strip TDM(Slight Compression).
