FUGU for Mrs K @StarMount Studio

FUGU, an improvisational music duo of theremin and violin was here to record music excerpts for "Mrs K" a film by Director Ho Yuhang.

Starting with the strings, we mic up the quartet players in a line formation from frist violin to cello. sE 3as were used for first and second violin, about 2 ft above the player's head, Akg C451B on viola and JZ V11 on cello. With a pair of sE RT1 in Blumlein for the overall ambient microphone, lush strings sounds were captured.

Strings in StarMount Studio

Ken Hor, one of the talented composer/ music arranger has brought his project in again. Which means more fun and more experiments in the studio!

We utilize the other studio downstairs ( very near to the coffee and baked goods), its more reflecting surfaces for the music.

We tracked the guitars with extra reflection boards ( like the reflectors in photography), amping the electric guitar signals at the hallway (so that the aroma from kitchen can get into the room) and trying different microphones on the violin and viola.

Looking forward to the next one...

More Strings and Movie OST@ StarMount Studio

We've been doing quite a lot of strings lately, here's one meant for an upcoming movie OST, composed, arranged and also produced by Qahhar. He brought in strings players and also the bubbly and powerful (voice) Heela Monica to StarMount Studio. Ok, we can only disclose this much information for now :)

Soundtrack for film at StarMount Studio

Strings and more strings coming in the studio these days. And it's lots of fun and hard work, most of all great effort to everyone involved in the movie soundtrack production.
Mixing cues and matching music to pictures are something new to our engineers and not to mention around the clock tracking and mixing!

We had 2 groups of string players coming in for the tracks and also cutting some rhythm sections and most of all the beautiful voice of miss Bell Foo.

sE Gemini sounds great when paired up with Bell's vocals. It gives such hugging warmth around the vocals, and it is really good if you're looking for the "intimate" vocal feel. Top end was silky and it sits right in the mix nicely.

JZ V12 was use for some "sweet" vocals as the strong mids from the mic and creamy top end gives it a solid yet punchy performance. Its interesting that this FET could produce texture very close to a tube mic would.

Looking forward to the mastering of the movie and will keep you guys posted when the movie is out!
